Hi Gary,
My name is Tina. I am a mom of a newly diagnosed type 1 child, this past Oct. 2000. My daughter is 7yrs. old and is doing well. We are adapting to our new world with every day. I was happy to see the emotions you expressed were ones we hit on on a daily basis. I came to the Poem for Jessica, 'Angel', and I fell apart. I was so comforted to see you finish it with the fact Jessica does live her life and grow up happy. I cannot Thank You enough for just that poem alone. We are so lost sometimes with all the newness and wanting answers when there are none, that we have to take days off from even talking about diabetes. She loves our support group and hates the doctor (because he told her she was diabetic and she would like to think he is a liar). My husband and I have tried to keep everything as close to the same as possible. She is a Very Brave little girl. We too will survive this "D" and pray she stays healthy along the way.
Again, Thank You for being the voice and sharing a part of you. I hope to chat with you sometime in the Children with Diabetes chat room.
Have a Great Day! Tina:~)

I have to say what beautiful expressive poems. My teenage son was diagnosed Jan. 2000 and it has been one heck of a wake up call. I never bargained to be somebody's pancreas. I have shared your poems with the parents of the diabetes chat room. I also told them of your site. Many relayed that it was like you were writing their story and tears were a common emotion.
Thank you for words that put on paper how a parent and how a child feels. Not often do people know just what diabetes can do in a person's life. Yes we are the warriors but oh how I feel defeated sometimes.

Gary,
You make me wonder how my 11-year-old really feels. Does he see it as a fight and a struggle? He has some poems at the starlitecafe.com, his name is Inteus.
Thank you for your thoughts.

Gary..Another mother on the parent list at the diabetes chat room web site shared the link to get to your poetry and I am so glad she did. I also shared that link with family and friends. Your poetry explained many things to them that I could not put into words or help them understand better. You should know that at least one family has been profoundly affected by you...you have helped my relatives and friends understand what Katie and I go through each day (my daughter Katie was diagnosed this past Thanksgiving)..and I have to thank you for that. Besides that..I don't think I've read one of your poems and not cried :).
Thank You,
Vicki
P.S. Gary...Just to put a face to a name...Jeff just posted Katie's bio on the diabetes chat room web site; (under the ‘children with diabetes’ section on the home page..she is the first one when you click on the Read about other children w/...link)..and then you can realize you helped this little girl's life out with your poetry :).
Thanks again..Take Care,
Vicki

You have managed to capture the feelings so precisoly. It´s exactly like how you write that I´ve felt a lot of times, and still feel somedays.
